Buying a car privately with a personal plate

Evening all,

I'm going to look at a car tomorrow that is for sale by a private seller. the owner has a personal plate on the car that he wants to retain.

If I decide to buy the car how do I register it on an age related plate, how much does it cost, how long does it take, and finally is the responsibility mine or the current owners?

Current owners if he wants to keep it. There's a fee to pay of course, but current owner will need to cough up if he wants to transfer it before sale. It will then get an age related plate or the original one it was registered with. Bear in mind the process can take a few weeks.

And the owner should have done this in advance, instead of waiting till it was advertised.!

Not that I have ever been caught out mind
