e36 m3 evo steering rack upgrade

hi guys,
is it a worth while mod on the e36 evo? I have been looking at e46 racks as a replacement as I am getting play in the steering so was going to change the inner tie rods and track rod ends anyway so maybe an ideal time for a upgrade.
I have heard the bmw e46 m sport steering rack fits part number 32136755068. is the best option and is it a straight swap?

Yip many bin the rack for a Z3 non M rack.

EVO rack 45mm per rev

E46 Compact 50mm per rev = 11% quicker than EVO

Z3 4-pot 53.5mm per rev = 19% quicker than EVO

What are you using the car for?

The Z3 rack makes it a bit twitchy on the road, but fine on track.
