MK 1 3 Litre Capris How Many Survive

EVC 289 L , a Daytona Yellow 3000 GT. My First road car. Bought it in early Jan 1982, from a then best mate and passed my test a few days later. This photo was taken circa June 82. Note the rear quarter damage, this was caused by a huge spin ( 3 times ) on the M11 and backwards into the crash barrier. She was up on 2 wheels at one point, at around 90 mph, how she didnt go over i still cant understand.

And yes you are dead right, the headlamps were shocking on her . 82 was a Really nice summer and seemed to go on forever. However we had a fair bit of snow at the end of 81 and into 82. The heater in her didn't bloody work and I used to freez .
She also had a knock from the engine, but it never got worse. She also had one of those tiny Pancake chrome mesh air filters which all the tuning firms say dont work, but that Capri was quick.
One day circa June 82, I saw an advert in Motoring news for a 69 TR6 in that lovely dark red , for sale at a horse dealer garage in Croydon.
On the way down Jobsworth old bill went by in their SD1 , turned round , followed me and then pulled me . he made me wipe the front number plate clean and nicked me for no tax.
I got to the garage saw the Tr6 and did a swap I beleive. But they saw me coming a mile away the robbing b....., the tr6 had had a huge shunt into a tree , the chassis was as bent as a banana.
I managed to sell the TR6 about 6 weeks later , to an acquaintance for £600, so I did well in the end !

I had one as my first car in Australia in 1987. Most of my mates had V8 falcons or Toranas. The V6 was really uncommon. I remember thinking it was really fast! I doubt it made 150HP!
Capri Mk1 was not a heavy car tho. Thx to OP for period late-71 3000GT pre-facelift pics. Niki Lauda in a road-spec 3000 Essex Mk1 Capri - interesting.
