I used AMS Auto Transmission Fluid for gearbox & Castrol Syntrax Limited Slip Diff Oil (75w-140) for the diff. Both are available from Opie Oils (use voucher code :SAVE to get 20% off at the mo). Also be prepared to get the car as high as you can, my plugs for gearbox & diff were very tight and difficult to get to, remove them anti-clockwise. Good luck. smile

As above for specifications of fluid.

As for equipment, it's doable from the smaller containers with the flexible straws in the cap. Gearbox can get a bit messy though.
Clean hosepipe could be used with a funnel of squirt oil into pipe from the straw in the containers.

I've found the 0.5l containers easier to work with then 1.0l; for the gearbox you need to push them up between the tubular chassis and the gearbox, then pivot the container down and guide straw into filler hole.

Screwfix sell an oil suction gun with a long tube attached which will pump 1/2 litre at a time from any position. I haven't filled the diff with it yet but the gearbox was easy, even lying under the car, and it's only £8.99!

which diff is it? mines the older GKN - filled by just having a long tube held above the car, went through wheel arch and into the filler hole, then just slowly pouring in from above, nice and easy.

same with gearbox, tube fed down to the filler hole from inside the car (removed gaitor) - saves messing around with pumps and stuff. or if you dont want to mess around taking the gear surround off, run the tub from the engine bay down the side of the gearbox into the filler hole

Some of the gkn diffs have the filler hole at the back just above a crossmember, a sod to undo but a bit of hose on a 1L bottle and then squeeze the bottle does the trick.
