Now I love to loath the electric car as much as most people on here but this does finally seem a good step forwards:

30 minute recharge to last you for 3 hours of driving and free electricity from a sustainable source... That wipes out most peoples objective reasons for not wanting an electric car.

A 30-minute recharge from a Supercharger will out 100 kilowatts for Model S vehicles which equates to about three hours of driving time at 60mph.
This could be a hurdle. We are still a good few years away from this being a viable alternative but at least someone is giving it a go.

Good progress, but doesn't address the primary obstacle (as I see it) - where is the electricity going to come from?

At the moment we're not going to have enough to go around as it is, let alone with the gigawatts required to run 30 million electric cars.
