Hi Scotty,
I don't know the car but you can bet that Hexham got it for bugger all!
It's a late spec car (which without a cat D would retail for mid to high twenties) so maybe you could get them to foot the bill for someone like Track v Road to check it out - just a thought.
You should also get the detail of the Cat D.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve

I have used HHC before and find Tony great to deal with and i like there standard of workmanship so happy there. The cat D part does not phase me as i have a cat D cerb and owned a cat D chim before that as well. I might give them a call soon but i am just toying with the idea and logistics of 2 TVR's in the house hold( And trying to talk the other half this is what we really need 2 in our life's) As i wont sell the Cerb . The targa part is the main reason it has caught my attention as i miss seeing the sky in the cerb.

Cheers Scotty

If the Cat D is no problem then it seems worth a close look tbh.
Good luck with the wife mate - I tried that and crashed and burnt :-)

LOL,
I'm sure HHC would be more than happy to pay another "dealer" to inspect the car.

PH never fails to amuse.

I would think you're right to pursue the original owner. It looks to have been touched by an enthusiast at some point but whether that masks the extent of the damage is not certain. I'm not clear on what "partial" history means and HHC saying it would make a great track day car for an enthusiast seems to imply it's not really robust enough for the road. Am I reading it wrong, or did it do 22000 miles in 15 months? Great but again you'd want to hear how. I know paint/wheel combos can be discussed until the cows come home but if I were looking at it I would wonder if either the wheels or the paint had been changed from original spec.

Find the first name on the V5 and eyes wide open....

Is a dealer legally able to retail a car without warranty , surely you must have some protection against buying a car not fit for purpose .

'Trade Sale'/'No warranty' can't negate your statutory rights.

If the dealer won't give any warranty or come back why not! You will at least get a reaction, they can tell you to bugger off or agree!
A friend of mine was looking to get a 996 GT3 from a performance car dealer and they would only give the basic warranty.
He contacted a Porsche specialist and he did in fact get the car inspected by them.
It's a strange world but if you don't ask you don't get.
But I'm glad that you are amused!

I'm sure the Sale of Goods Act must apply.... as said earlier, fit for purpose, as described, of merchantable quality, and seem to remember 3 months being the 'reasonable' time frame for a claim against the retailer regardless of what he/she says in the advert etc., unless you sign a disclaimer (so check the small print!!!!)

For the price, go for it, if you can get an independent to check it for you smile it looks lovely, nice colour, targa, oil preheater etc

Ring up Hexham and ask for details, stickers indicating where it may have come from, ask each place that has worked on it and ask for info. I did this with mine and found all the garages eager to help. There may be past info on pistonheads smile

I found talking to people like Jason at Str8Six or Dom at TVR Power was just what I needed at the time as they also put things into perspective smile

To be clear, they didn't inspect it. I picked their brains and they both helped me understand my options and the reality of owning a tvr, backed by talking to other owners smile I did ring up every garage that had serviced her, the places that had done work to get a picture of past owners smile that's my suggestion wink

My car was never an issue it was lovely and well looked after. I would get an independent to check yours though, however your buying from somewhere that is well known smile

I'm sure there are TVR mechanics who would give a second opinion but at a cost smile
