Buying the mrs her first car

Hi everyone, been lurking around this place for a while so decided to join up.
I'm looking at buying my mrs her first car in a few months, I plan to save around £1500 in that time.
She's been driving my car for the past 3 or 4 years and will finish university soon so she needs her own wheels.
I've been looking and it's come to this list so far.
Seat Arosa
VW Lupo
VW Polo
Suzuki Ignis (almost off my list, rare car/expensive parts?)
Yaris 1.3
Ford KA Sport (almost taken off, rust?)
MGT/MGTF (seen ones with 60k, full engine rebuilds!!!)
Seat Ibiza
Fiat Punto Sport (just have a feeling they're cheap and nasty)
Just needs to be small, something a girl would like, doesn't need to be fast.
I know all cars for this kind of money will have problems and I know that a lot of the KA's are bad with rust, is this the same with the KA Sport?
Which would you guys pick if they were all the same condition and price?

Not trying to be a prick, but why can't she buy her own car? You could buy yourself something very nice for £1500! Like the Lexus above 
On another note, how about a Skoda Fabia? They are actually really good little cars, and feel quite solid. I had the displeasure of being driven in a year 2000 Fiesta, and it felt like a tin shed! On the flip side, my sister's Fabia, which is the same age, feels much better. Yes, I know they are of different generations, but still, I know where my money would go.

Mrs Muppet bought herself an '04 Civic. She's been very happy with it, and other than a couple of new rear brake calipers nothing has gone wrong on it for the last 7 years.
I wasn't what I'd have bought her, but I've not had a chance to tell her she was wrong about it because it's been perfect.
She hates my MX5, hasn't driven it since a sighting lap at Barkston Heath in 2008.

I'm buying it her for her birthday, plus it's the day she graduates and she's worked her balls off for the past few years so it will benefit both of us in the long run (although I could PX my old CBR in for an RR hmmmmmmm).
Skoda is out of the Window just because of the badge, shame I know because they're good cars.
Forgot to mention she would be doing a small bit of commuting in this, would an MX5 be ideal for that? Looks like a car that may have been ragged most of it's life...
That pink car would be out of my price range too, this only has to be until she gets on her feet then she can buy the TT of her dreams lol

Been going through exactly the same thing myself! The Yaris seems perfect, but it's not particularly easy finding a good one on that budget.
As my Wife won't be penalised by insurance companies for being a young driver (there's a nice diplomatic way of putting it) then I can actually afford to get her something a little pokier. So far the Audi A4 2.8 Quattro is coming out strongly and seems way easier to find a good one for the money

If it was me I'd go for something like a Kia Picanto. You'd be crazy to dismiss a Fabia for the badge and leave an MG on the list
For something different, how about an old shape Renault Twingo? Should be able to afford a good one for that price and they're different enough while still being easy to work on.

My MX5 is 20 years old. The previous owner used to use it for drifting competitions, and turbo'd it up to 200bhp. He then used it for driver training and let punters thrash it. Then he took the turbo off and sold it to me. I did three seasons of drift competitions in it, slapped another turbo on it, had it catch fire, drove it with no radiator, crashed it, watched someone else crash it, gave drifting lessons in it and all the time used it for winter commuting and left it outside.It currently has a slightly rattly heatshield and passed it's last MOT with no advisories. It just won't die.
