Hi,

Anybody happen to know this car for sale in Wadsley Bridge (Sheffield):

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2012...

I would like to get a PPI done, there is a Porsche dealer within 5 miles of the seller but the nearest independent is 30+ miles. Would a Porsche PPI be ok, I am thinking it will be less thorough and I will not be able to have them dig as deep into the cars condition, past accident history etc as an indy

Thanks for any help
Simon

Dont know the car but would say good spec. white dials, sports seats. Porsche ppi not s good on the basis they will hump you big time for the privalige. My view get a peter morgan report done, he will travel, expensive but piece of mind on a car like this.

Are the GT3 wheels the same rim widths and correct offsets (no mention of spacers fitted) as the turbo wheels, being from a narrow boddied car?

Or are they from a GT2?

Not a bad price for an s. would definitely advise inspection. Peter Morgan is good. But opc will also be fine I would guess.

Thanks for the suggestion of Peter Morgan, I would happily pay the price they charge if the car was what I had my heart set on. Shame its 6hrs from me. I am told the Gt3 wheels were optioned from the factory and appear on the paperwork but I haven't been able to get a copy of it yet.

Thanks for the responses
Simon

Personally having had a Peter Morgan PPI report on a car that went really wrong i would ask exactly what is included in the PPI.

The test drive was.............

"following the seller for some 6-7 miles, more than allowed him to gauge the engine from an external viewpoint . the length of the test drive at over 3 miles was comparable in scope and length to any inspection we conduct"

Those are Peters words not mine the car also didnt exceed 40mph !

Other things were missed and if you read the small print Peter Morgan is only ever liable to refund the cost of the PPI.
In my case he offered to repay half, quite how badly a PPI has to be to warrant a full refund i shudder to think.

Perhaps they just had a bad day but its the new owner that picks up the big bills if they do get it wrong.

Milbrooke in Sheffield are decent Porsche indies, just down the road from the OPC near the police station, should be able to do you an inspection

Thanks for the advice fellows, I have decided to give this car a miss. Points taken on the PPI, there can never be any guarantees but if you are buying a 5yr+ old performance car then you have to be prepared to take on some risk to even consider the purchase.

That looks like a great deal. I paid a few k more than that for a 2005 'S' with the same sort of mileage earlier this year. I did have a PPI done though; I wouldn't have bought something that complicated without one.

Cheers,
Pete

Eric,

I was contacted by someone who knows the car and made aware of some potential issues, that was enough for me to look elsewhere.

Probably the best PPI there is, and why forums like this are great places to exchange info.
Good luck Mondie searching for your next car.

I guess there is often a reason why cars are cheap

There's actually a third option - these wheels also came in the correct fitment/size for the turbo, but looking at the back wheel, I don't think this is them.

The 996TT looks tough on GT3 wheels, I would like to find one that had these factory fitted but that would be lucky.

I see... I had similar experiences in the past with Porsches (when I looked for a gt2 was the worst: so many lemons).

I decided over the years to take a different approach to buying these cars: rather than to look at the cheapest ones, I went contrarian and started looking at the most expensive ones (that I could afford of course) and get them inspected by guys I trust (John Manning at Porsche Reading among others). You end up with a nicer car to start with, less things to fix (sometimes bottom-less money pits), easier to resale.

Agree with you there Eric, I am certainly not on a quest to find the cheapest car out there. I was attracted to this car because it looked to be in excellent condition and the spec along with GT alloys really looked the part. Oh well, I will keep looking ....
