It says that they designed it in house. I wonder if they'll sell them on to third parties. Surely there is a demand around the world for such vessels. Could be a nice income stream.

It's hard to imagine a state-funded RNLI doing a better job - it exemplifies an almost uniquely British - pace Eric - volunteer ethos and certainly does not need to become a political or bureaucratic football.

An excllent insitution - and one which has happilly existed as a co-operative British/Irish operation for well over 100 years - despite all the ups and downs of the British/Irish relationship in that period.

It just shows the benefit of NOT having governments involved.

Interesting to think how many other organisations could be removed from Govt and run by volunteers - except eventually you'd run out of volunteers. But then, if tax was half as much, we'd have more spare time ... cut out the middleman as they say.

The boat is pretty nice, but the revolving launch/recovery tracked "trailer" is a work of genius ;-)

Having holidayed in Poole near Poole a couple of times I do think the RNLI is missing a trick with their facility in Poole where I think these things are made and designed. I am sure that in any other country there would be a facility to visit watch them being built, view the submersion tax etc with the associated tea room, shop etc to make money.

Sure it would be very popular.

Yep donate! Got plenty of friends in the RNLI and they do sterling work. One of them probably helped design that boat! Some others manage beaches in the south east so everyone can enjoy the surf.
