following on from the now closed 4.8 AJP thread which has now been locked The 4.7 upgrade, this is the reality they make the numbers we say, they are reliable they are backed-up by APM/POWERSPERFORMANCE these engines deliver unlike other offerings, tested for 4 years in the most extreme condition's your not the guinea pig we've done that bit, proven and backed-up straight up and no bull

My understanding is that 4.7 is the way to go and obviously its been set up and proven in race cars. However i`m not sure how many road cars have been done with a 4.7 and i guess they require setting up differently to a race car. Therefore i guess the 64000 dollar question is for the outlay required for a 4.7 what can be expected performance wise specifically regarding BHP output?.Im not particularly a performance jockey when it comes to AJP engines,a standard 4.5 does it for me but i would like to know what benefits there are from a 4.7 as opposed to a 4.5 Red Rose with short induction and a remap for instance? Its well documented that APM and Power are amongst the top AJP engine builders in the UK,so when it comes to rebuild time for mine i know where its going...i just want to know what i can expect from a 4.7 in a road car if i chose to go for it!?!

Andy, when you have a spare minute please can you email me with a quote for the following: If I were to deliver to you both a 4.5 and a 4.2 engine, how much to build a crate 4.7 long engine using ported 4.2 inlets and then allowing you to keep all the bits from either engines that you don't use in the build.

What is the approx cost of a 4.7 on a healthy 4.2? Out of morbid curiosity.. For future reference.. whistle

Go watch mike Saunders driving his 4.7 or try a passenger ride.
They are very fast! I think you can expect a lot more power than just 0.2 ltrs / 5% increase in capacity from a 4.5. Maybe 450 - 470 depending on spec etc....?

It's possible to get 440/450bhp from a 4.5 but then one 4.7 is pushing towards 500bhp (emerald's rollers, apm built) and certainly 480bhp seems a realistic target with nice bits.

Hoping to crack the 500 barrier with my one when it finally gets built... Been screwed around by a garage for just over a year but its now with mr Steve Howard, going into build over winter so hoping for good things! smile

Apparently 495bhp has been achieved with a 4.7 ! OK its not the bhp of the monster LS' but its a lighter engine and its 'original' and looking at Mike saunders performance it isnt troubled by LS' anyhow.
That is amazing!

I think if you look at it as a relatively small premium over a 4.5 rebuild then it is exceptional value.

Hi Nick, Hope you get the car sorted soon as would be good to have some more newbies out there on the grid with me laugh
I will also look at the 4.7 APM engine when the original race engine needs a re-fresh as would like to stay as close to original spec as possible, did not stop me speccing & pricing a monster LS7 build!!! Big£££££

I missed out on why the 4.8 thread was closed?? confused

Conflicting opinions between the OP and the engine mapper..

Well since the 4.7 was taking so long (due to afformentioned garage, not because of anything to do with the components) I bought a 4.2 to go in it for now which is in the car I understand and is having the oil/water/fuel pipes made up. Lots more little mods have cropped up though like spacing the rack, altering the steering column new brake lines etc so it probably won't be running for Oulton which is a shame as I wanted to bring it up to at least shake down. Should have no problem getting on the grid next season though smile

I'm sure the 4.7 engine is a real stormer of an engine and is proving to be very reliable and is on a lot of owners wish lists but in ROAD trim 500bhp, no way not on your nelly. Unless the engine is fully blue printed gas flowed, race cams different injectors etc ,etc 500bhp in my opinion is a number too far.
470bhp maybe 500bhp.spin

if you want 500bhp from a road going AJP you need a forced induction hehe
