GPS reception

Quick question for anyone with integrated nav in their Chim (or Griff).

Just fitted (Carl fitted) a Becker unit and we are struggling with reception.

The antenna has been put on the underside of the dash (Carl has done plenty that way before).

I've ordered a new antenna - but can people with a GPS antenna let me know if they have issues or mounted on top of the dash?

I had issues in my Griifth getting reception. In the end I had it mounted right in the top corner of the windscreen on the passenger side. Cable running behind the A pillar

In my Cerb its mounted right at the back (cable goes under the centre control and up to the top rear seat belt mounts. You can just see it through the back window next to the belt mounting point on the passenger side on the back shelf.

Mine is under the trim on the central transmission tunnel, towards the back. Wouldn't have thought it would work from there, but it does

Central tunnel at the back seems like a good idea given the soft top.

Mine is under the dash top, I had to move it about to find where it worked best - try moving it?

I think I saw where carl undid the dash underneath but not at the back.

I have the bible - is it in there?

Three 10mm nuts or wing nuts secure the dash top on a Chimaera, two on the left hand side, one at the right hand end, by the windscreen.

Not familiar with the Becker unit but if there was a reflector plate supplied with this unit for the aerial use it, a lot of fitters bin them, they are in the box for a reason

Mounting as close as possible to horizontal helps, the best reception on mine was when on top of flasher unit.

Thanks. The antenna had a magnetic sticker on the base. Was used, so not sure on the reflector bit.

Reflector is a square piece of sheet metal, obviously not needed if the aerial is mounted outside on bodywork ............................ if you have a metal car

ETA: you cannot alter the length of the aerial cable!

Pics to follow. Really pleased - got a new antenna and played about a bit and found a spot under the dash.

Removing the dash top is a proper PIA.
