Little challenge for all those bored. What's the best hot hatch (subjective term I understand!) for under 1500 notes.

Interested to see what everyone can come up with. Links to examples would be good.

This, possibly a 106 GTI or rally too if you can find a low mileage one

Not for £1500 you won't find a low mileage one of these 2 - more like £2k to £3k now.

ZR160
Clio 172
Almera GTi - more warm than hot, but good fun and reliable
ZS180 - 6 cylinders!
Saxo VTS - finding one unmolested isn't easy

Good shout, but for £1500?

I think the OP may have to be a little bit lucky to get one for that sort of money

Civic VTi-S worth a shout? Technically a hatch and has the 160bhp B18C

3 or 4 in the classifieds for under 2k.

This is one of the last....must be worth a go at that price.

I shouldn't be looking at that, so close to payday, and seeing as it's in Central Scotland eek

It's been said, the 172/gti-6 cannot be touched in this price bracket

I paid less than that for my Impreza Turbo Wagon, its almost a hatchback and a cracking car for the money

Rover 25 BRM?

Sheddy Renault 5 Turbo? This is the closest I could find to the budget but they do pop up for sub 1500 every so often.

Rover 200 BRM would have to be up there. Good in every way and hugely capable.

Less good but cool would be an MG Meastro Turbo.

Are you including coupes in this? If so then a Puma must be in the running too.

Alfa 145 Cloverleaf has a lovely rorty 2.0 NA engine, cool quirky looks, properly galvanised body (no rust), great steering feedback, great kart like handling. The best bit is they cost bugger all, mainly as everyone wants to pay over the odds for a Golf or similar mainstream car. They are a wise buy. I've had two in my past years smile

Left field: Mk3 Mr2;s are touching down to that price range now. Not a hot hatch as such, but a fantastic drivers car with low running costs and a bit "different".

I retract my previous comment and commend thee Sir.

I thought they had gone above that price, tbh.
