I have a lightweight flywheel and stronger clutch plate kit fitted around 10 to 15k miles ago.

1. The thrust bearing has failed, both lips or tabs that the clutch fork pulls on, have broken off.

2. My concern is whether this thrust bearing is up to the job, it might be a badly cast part or should I up spec it to the strongest thrust bearing available (considering GT3 road/Cup car components).

3. I don't want to fit the same part if it is likely to fail again.

Any help or info would be great!

Heres a couple of pics.

What were the symptoms of the bearing going in the lead up to the failure? When it did fail did the car jam in gear?

The first thing that happend was when I pushed the clutch I heard a pop and thought nothing of it even though there was a slight difference in the pedal feel.

Then I went to the gym for a couple of hours and on my way home the clutch started to get stiff.

So I rang a friend who works for porsche and told him what happend, so he told me to look at the resevoir in the front of the car next to the battery and check if it has leaked any fluid which it did.(that was the pop)

The response to that was, in his experience it's the clutch slave that fails first amongst other things that could have.

I only found out the bearing had failed due to the slave being changed which didnt fix the problem!

So the gearbox came out and the bearing failure was found.

The gears did start to jam and the clutch became so hard it was like using a leg press!!! LOL

Was the last clutch replacement a LWF conversion and the pressure plate wasn't changed?

Nope it was a proper clutch kit with all new parts!

This type of failure is usually caused by a pressure plate fault which makes the pedal (especially on a non-servo clutch) go extremely heavy to push.

So there was no other indication of a problem in the weeks/months leading to the ultimate failure?

nope.

Others seem to think it was down to the installer!

Including the fork?

I had the same when I used an old type fork with a new type thrust washer:
