Windscreen Rubber Issue
Discussion
I just wanted to know if anyone can confirm or help with something, I had my windscreen replaced by a windscreen company through insurance (the company is in receivership)a few years ago and they used the wrong rubber over the top of the windscreen. It's now falling off and makes putting the top on a pain AND looks a dogs breakfast!
I've ask my indy if he can or knows someone who can replace the rubber with the correct one, he tells me it can't be replace without replacing the whole windscreen. True? anyone know of any way?
Thanks very much

There is a chap in or around your area that is one of the recognised experts.
I am told he does all the windscreens for Racing Green, Fernhurst and APM, plus others.
If your indy should happen to fall into that list above, (you'll know who I mean if he does), then personally I would accept his advice at face value.
As it happens, 'windscreen man' just completed mine yesterday and I am going to see the car today or tomorrow latest.
In the interim, I will call and see if I can get an answer to your question.
I have been told several times that 'the knowledgeable' will reuse the seal if at all possible.
I've never been told that it can't be redone later, but I think getting a new seal to fit correctly is nearly always an issue.

Thanks guys, appreciate the help. The windscreen is also delaminating at the bottom as they often do, shame I let that company talk me into replacing it, I was warned to let the expert do it but they told me they had a guy who'd done dozens with no problem.
Ho-hum, maybe I'll pick up a stone crack tomorrow at Odiham! =:-0

How long has it been (since the replacement) ?Ho-hum, maybe I'll pick up a stone crack tomorrow at Odiham! =:-0
I have the same problem. Had a replacement windscreen fitted by a reputable company with much TVR experience but still has to be re-done. The roof seal is ok but the rubbber down the side of the screen on the driver's side (where it meets the chrome of the door) has started to come away so that when the door is closed it pinches it and pulls it so far off that you can see the side of the glass. Not letting water in but looks horrible
To be fair though the company involved have agreed to fix the problem as soon as I can arrange for them to come out.

What is the make of the screen?
Even if the original fitters of the screen have gone bust (auto windscreens?) the manufacturers still have product liability and will want to avoid adverse publicity regarding the quality of their products. (the power of pistonheads) What is the make of the screen?
A way forward would be to persue the delaminating angle with the manufacturer via Glassman and have the top rubber sorted when a new screen is fitted.
I once had a new screen fitted on my car and the manufacturer sent their rep out to check the screen and fitted a new one under warranty.
If it was fitted by Autowindscreens then was that under insurance? If so then the insurer should be jointly liable for the performance of their appointed contractor even if that supplier is no longer trading. Have you contacted the resurrected Autowindscreens?

It was about 4 years ago I had it fitted, yes auto windsreens, and last year I called them up which is when they told me nothing could be done as they were in administration, hadn't thought about going after the mfr, wonder if it's too late.
Auto Windscreens, before they went tits up, guaranteed their work for three years. This might still be the case. But I'd go with zapmc's suggestion and lean on the insurer. You didn't choose AW. They did.
