Just bought my first Porsche, a lovely Cayman S and will only be driving it a few times a month through the winter. Can anyone recommend a good battery charger I can leave it hooked up to during the down times?

+2 Optimate, cost you less than £40 on eBay. (currently running 3 or 4 of them on vrious cars and they work perfectly)

im runnng the ctek too.good chargers but i hate the fact they give you next to no lead length from car to charger or charger to wall.especailly as the battery on a 996 is in the middle of the bulkhead!

A daft question I'm sure but.....if using one of these chargers how do you connect to the battery or ciggie lighter without leaving the car unsecured i.e running the cable through an open window or popped bonnet?

Battery lead passes through the front of the bonnet (wipers end) without pinching.

I've also passed it through the nose of my Boxster and locked it without problems.

Used Ctek 3600 on my 997 since new over 5 years ago, car not used in worst winter months. Plugged in to cig lighter, shut door on lead.

(crosses fingers)

Still on original battery..........

I even think the Porsche branded one is a Ctek.

has anyone tried the solar panel chargers - only 1-2W but means no trailing leads if you do not have a garage.

Can I ask if it's safe to trail a lead outdoor to or from these devices that then go a gap into the garage door?

Sorry for noob question as I'm thinking about getting one of these
