I need to find somewhere nice and special for a Sat night in 2 weeks time. We don't need Cliveden/Manoir levels of poshness and haut cuisine. We do want a spa type place with a good indoor pool/jacuzzi, massages etc.

Any ideas?

Sopwell House in St Albans gets good reviews. Evening meal and treatments are included in the deal price!

http://www.sopwellhouse.co.uk/special-offers-hertf...

plenty of offers, great food and you can uprade to a junior suite for an extra £40.

My contact tells me to avoid room 8.

Looks perfect - thanks. However, not available on Sat 13th. Buggeration.

Any other suggestions?

Thanks.

Thanks - noticed 2 others from their group on the website which are a little closer - I just need to decide which Tynley Hall or Luton Hoo.

Can't comment on them - I have been to the Ashdown forest one.

Very nice it is too.

Spent last weekend at Ashdown Park. Not an inexpensive weekend though.

To put it in context. Dinner from the a la carte menu for four with two bottles of wine (£75 each) was £440.

Rooms are £180 per night, a junior suite is £380.

We had free accommodation and our bill for two nights was £850.

Also, the spa is 100m walk from the hotel. Not ideal if it is puring with rain.

I only go there as it is 2 miles away and rather pleasant to eat.

The Grove, Rickmansworth should fit the bill.

We are regulars here:

It's funky, has a great spa and the food is excellent.
