Killing Spiders
Discussion
I have to admit, I hate spiders. As a kid they terrified me, but now I have no problem removing or squishing or brushing off the little feckers for my (utterly, heartstoppingly phobic) girlfriend when they decide to make a home of our garden furniture. I even let the majority (outside) live as I know they're beneficial creatures, even if they do creep the hell out of me.
Well, at least, I thought I had no problem until I saw one in a web outside our front door. Catch it in a pint glass? Well apart from being too high albeit perilously close to the front door - this
wouldn't FIT in a pint glass - in fact it wouldn't surprised me if an attempt to catch it in a pint glass would result in said glass being wrenched from my grip by two legs and smashed in my face by two more while two more wrapped themselves around my throat and tried to choke me to death.
So while I am fully aware that this is going to trigger an avalanche of posts from the MTFU and RSPCA brigades (which I will ignore), does anyone know of a bug-spray that can be bought in the UK (like errm...today, on my way home) which is actually any good for killing big massive huge f
koff spiders?
(While deodorant and a lighter is tempting, kill-it-with-fire isn't appropriate as the porch ceiling is flammable).
Thanks in advance, and yes, I am a big poofter.
(Just not as big as this motherf
king arachnid).

Half an hour later I see something moving out the corner of my eye, another one running across the floor. Another glass dropped over that one.
The next morning I put both of them out and strangely they seemed to start squaring up to one another!
BTW - a spider trapped under a glass and two confused cats makes for better viewing than Dr Who
ETA - yes these were the kind of spiders that have to tuck their legs up to get under a pint glass.

A lot of Aussies have told me that vacuum cleaners or hairspray are the most common weapons in the fight against spiders.
Their spiders are proper ones though
Incidentally, I left a stepladder in the kitchen last night at about 11.30pm. There was obviously a spider under one of the rungs because by 7am I came down to find this remarkable creation about 5ft across:

They are absolutely amazing creatures. I felt really bad destroying her hard work.

Was it a spider sized stepladder and if not I'm pretty sure they don't need help getting up high anyways.
