Just recently the clutch pedal has started to feel a bit different. When operating the pedal it seems to be a bit sticky, especially when lifting off the pedal - a sort of jerky motion as opposed to smooth and free. It's sort of hesitant to return.

It only does this when the engine is running, when it's turned off it's as smooth as anything. Any ideas? I've checked the fluid levels and it's fine and also looks clean.

Maybe worth looking at the actuating arm on the clutch itself. You can see this through the inspection hole on the bottom of the gearbox. It's not unknown for these to wear right through.

A search on here will yield some photos and more detailed description of the problem.

+1, mine felt a bit strange then the clutch arm gave way on the pivot, total fooked!

Worth a look before you end up stranded!

I was going to suggest the release fork. Mine went really soft for 1 or 2 presses and then locked solid, couldn't press the pedal at all. That's a bit different to your case and I can't think why it would only do that with the engine running.

What about a knackered release bearing or similar bearing. With the engine running the clutch is rotating of course so its something that is eased by the rotation in some way. I'm not an expert on clutches sorry.

Thanks for the suggestions. smile I'll take a look under the gearbox to see if there's anything obvious but it's probably beyond the realms of my capabilities so will no doubt end in a trip to a specialist. To be fair I've now managed nearly four years without having to visit a garage for something to be fixed (other than at annual service time) so I suppose I can't complain too much!

Could just be that the master cylinder needs changing. Had this on mine.
