This is a long story…but one with a happy ending.

A couple of months ago driving along in my August 2001 996 C4 Cab, at around 40 mph through the roadwork’s on the M25 near Heathrow, the car started to ‘Hunt’, then all hell let loose on the dashboard when lights I had never seen before came on.

The car was losing powerbig time, but luckily I was near an exit.

The car was running, but exhaust gasses were only coming out of one pipe.

Also the noise from the engine can only be described as a tin box with nails rattling around inside.

I stopped the car, and cried… The car was out of warranty.

I got the car back to my place, and pondered!

I knew if I put the car into an OPC the cost would be massive, even though I did not know what the damage was at this time.

I then remembered a company called JZ Machtech, based in Kings Langley, Herts.

I spoke to them and they suggested I get the car to them.

About a week later I had a call from them asking a few question about the car, my driving habits, what speed I was driving when it all went wrong, who serviced it etc.

What had happened was the timing chain on one side had snapped…. but luckily the speed I was travelling at was low and so there was not so much damage done to the engine.

JZ had not seen a timing chain snapped like it before, so they spoke to a contact at the OPC in Hatfield where the car was purchased, they sent over a technician with their own diagnostic system to read the computer chip in the car.

The noise was the flywheel breaking up as well.

Anyway after a chat between JZ and the OPC, Porsche said they would pay towards the cost of the repair carried out by JZ, this was in the end around 98% of the repair bill.

The car has been repaired with all upgraded parts; even the oil pump is from the new 997.
I have now a rebuild engine to 2004 spec.

I cannot thank the team at JZ enough, without them I would be looking at a massive repair bill, which would have taken me a couple of years to pay off, as well as the HP payments for a car I could not use or sell!

By the way, I tried to defer payments for the time the car was off the road, Porsche want to take me to court, but that is another story!

Again my thanks to everyone at JZ Machtech.

Perhaps Porsche should have a pat on the back for picking up 98% of your bill?
