Some are useful (how to hang your helmet over the stem/bars for example) and some are ridiculous (sunglasses over the straps of the helmet?)

I agree some of the rules need a heavy dose of salt, but I always wear my sunglasses over the straps, it just feels very odd not to.

Same here. The glasses keep the straps flat to my head and reduce wind turbulence. The rules about taking photos do make the bike look better. Rule 9 and 10 are motivational.

But I'll wear whatever colour socks I like.

I know a guy who references "the rules" in almost every cycling related conversation.
imho any one above the age of 12 who refers to the rules should be forcefully sterilized.

I respectfully suggest that some people get a grip. As someone has already pointed out the glaringly obvious, it is light hearted and not meant to be taken seriously.

But if you notice, they get referred to an awful lot and I, mainly as I don't know the rules, am fed up with trying to figure out what someone is talking about when they refer to rule such and such. I'm sure I'm not alone, so they are now where people who want to reference them can find them.

If you know all the rules or, do not want to know the rules, the solution is made even easier just for you - you don't even need to click on a link

The scorn I used to get when going for a spin through the valleys on the road bike - in baggy jeans, Vans and a normal mtb top. I loved it, as has been said - especially if you're able to leave them for dead on the hills
