We've just had our two girls spayed last week, a Westie and a Miniature Schnauzer, so far everything's been fine but now they've started licking the wounds.

We were given a couple of the plastic collars by the vet but the dogs can't stand them. When we put them on, the Westie goes nuts and ends up tearing the collar off, the Schanuzer just stands frozen to the spot and won't move once it's on.
Are there any other options to prevent them licking the wounds? Someone suggested cutting the leg out of a pair of tights and putting it like a sleeve over the dogs body to cover the wound area.
Any other suggestions?

T-shirts on the wrong way round works well, or as the are quite small dogs you could probably cover the wound the normal way round.

There are soft collars available (esp on internet)http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/?ie=UTF8&keywords=soft+e+collar&tag=mh0a9-21&index=pets&hvadid=479681662&ref=pd_sl_71uh4ioh7a_b

but not sure how quickly you could get them posted out.

There is a dressing called Primapore that your vets may have that can cover the wounds. We sometimes put one over for the first couple days but they may be ok with putting the dressings on today for you if tyou phone.

Thanks for that.
My Missus went out shopping and came back with some little babygrows. They fit a treat and wearing them doesn't seem to bother them too much!
Can't quite decide whether they look cute or daft in them!!

We put a babygrow on ours when she was spayed. It was great because they cant get the stiches, dont have to wear a funnel and when they need the loo, just undo the poppers at their tail.
