Root canal treatment - aftermath!
Discussion
I had root canal treatment yesterday and now have a face twice the size that it should be! I barely slept last night because of the pain and I now can't close my mouth because any pressure on the tooth is excruciating. I've got some dihydrocodiene which is helping a little, but its still immensely painful.
Has anyone had root canal treatment before that ended up like this? Is it normal?!

Absolutely shouldn't feel like this (I've had several).
Maybe an infection has developed - I've also had an abcess and this sounds just like it.
Get back to the dentist pronto!

Had a couple and the treatment was no different to your average filling & post was appreciated relief. The harder part was very much front loaded.
Well I went back into the dentist yesterday and have been given some more pills. Looks like I've got an infection of the bone which was in there before the treatment and the screwing around they've done in there has aggravated it and bought it out. The drugs should fix it and, so far, they seem to have done their job a little, but the swelling is worse!
Oh well, at least it'll be fixed for good once this stops!!!

I had the same issue 2 days of hell and no sleep but recovered quickly after that. I still remember the throb on every heart beat. Oh well, at least it'll be fixed for good once this stops!!!
Hope it gets better soon.

If there's an infection, it's probably bringing it to the surface. Youll be disgusted and relieved in equal measure when it bursts.Oh well, at least it'll be fixed for good once this stops!!!
If paracetamol and codeine aren't providing enough pain relief, you can top that up with ibuprofen since the drugs are of different families.
Provided you don't take more than the recommended dose of paracetamol, you can safely double the recommended dose of ibuprofen. (Provided you aren't allergic to ibuprofen / have any other reason why you shouldn't use it.)
I do sympathise. I broke my arm in two places but I reckon the pain of a tooth abscess was worse.
