Is the £22.5k 997 a sensible option
Discussion
I had a warranty direct warranty on my Toureg. I think I paid about £500 for it and they paid out for a claim worth £800 with no issues whatsoever. If the WW one looks good then go for it
Although the "specialist" warranties from Hartech and the like are undoubtedly superior you do have to factor in the additional cost for them to perform an initial inspection and then rectify anything they find - you don't have to do this with WW or WD. When I bought my 997 I was going to get it put under the Hartech scheme as I do believe it is probably the most comprehensive out there but as it would have cost me £600 ish for it to be inspected/serviced just a few months after it had already had a major service it just seemed like dead money. If the car was due a service though it may have been a different matter
Ultimately though, a warranty is just an insurance policy and insurance companies invariably win. You may be better off just getting a good inspection done by a reputable indy, including compression test and boroscope and going from there. It's the engine that is the main source of the big bills but if the engine checks out ok then there's very little to insure against really.

Friend sold a 53,000 mile 55 plate Arctic Silver manual C2S into the trade about 4 months ago for £23.5k.
It had Full Porsche Service history , Only had a service a couple of months before with 4 new tyres put on the car .
Porsche warranty had only just expired when he sold it - he got no serious offers putting it in the PH classifieds.
Ended up selling into the trade as he'd purchased his next car already.
The car has been for sale at the Independent for £28.5k since they day they bought it , it's just recently been reduced to £27k
So Yes , find one privately that's been looked after and with FPSH and you should be get a great car for close to £22.5k.
In my opinion......

How would you 'check out' the engine? The failures are pretty sudden, no?

Although nothing short of stripping it down will tell you 100%, if you get the bores checked out and a compression test done then you can be as sure as you can be that it'll be fine. Get it done by a company that understands the car, listen to their opinion and then make a decision Mtr
