So having spent a few hours in heavy traffic caused by the recent rain, I got to thinking about a winter beater to take the pressure of the morgan over the winter.

I sold my forester last spring which had been great for 2 winters, but this year I'm thinking how cheaply I can do it. I reckon I will be covering 1500 miles a month over the winter, in and around northumberland.

Having spent a few minutes perusing AT for cars under £1k this afternoon and a fiat seicento sporting lept out at me it looked to be in tidy condition, I had one of these 10 years ago, and it was an entertaining drive.
On the off chance we get some snow I could put some winter rubber on it, I guess is that this would be a pretty handy winter weapon. Hmmm.....

any other ideas, mainly it needs to be 4 seats less than £1k to buy, and anything better than 30mpg would be fine.

I just bought a Honda HRV 4wd for £580. Throwing some SottoZero winter tyres at it and it should be good to go. Had 6 months tax and MOT and was serviced 2 months ago.

Happy days biggrin

The last time I was in that situation, I was looking for a grand Cherokee for a grand. However after an impulsive ebay click I ended up with a 1k alfa 164 3.0 V6. Turned out to be a cracking car, really exceeded any expectations I had.

cheers chaps, a 10 mile search on AT isnt too inspiring, apart from the sporting, there's a couple of tatty pumas, and a mint rover 100! although I have spotted an alfa 147....
