Relay and Splice Unit (RAS)
Discussion
After my earlier thread on horn troubles, I've traced it down to the horn relay inside the Relay/Splice Unit (RAS).
It seems strange to me that they would make a box full of relays a non-servicable component, but there you go.
Is it normal for a single relay in the box to fail? The only other thing I'm sure goes through there is something associated with the headlights because that's what gets a few clicks- so the unit partially works. Everyhting else on the car seems to work, though I'm not driving it around yet.
Have other people had problems with the RAS? Is there someone out there who fixes them or are spares available? I don't see them listed on part sites.
I have the option of trying to find an exact replacement relay and fitting it to the pcb, or cutting into the loom and fitting a new external relay, but that seems a bit wrong to me. Is that the normal repair?
If anyone has RAS experience I'd love to hear it.

Before you change the relay I'd check that it's getting the required voltage across it's coil just to make sure the fault isn't elsewhere.
I had a problem with the RAS in my Tamora which was traced to a burnt out track on the pcb.
The relays are still readily available if that turns out to be the problem, fairly cheap too.
Whatever you do don't send it away to be fixed unless you really have to, repair charges on these units are a rip off.
