I am considering moving the battery to the boot; the fuse panel will remain in the standard place. I will run the new cable 40mm or 50mm down the top of the tunnel on the passenger side then use the normal route to the starter, the earth cable will be fixed to the chassis via the rear body bolt behind the fuel tank.
My question is - there are two brown wires which normally go from the battery terminal to the fuse box, I need to run another cable from the boot to join these, what ampage should I consider for the brown cables?
Any one have a preference for the type of battery for a 4.6?
Thanks in advance.

What are the dissadvantages of moving the battert to the boot/

Weight at the tail?

I do fancy this mod myself to achieve more legroom.

What about those small batteries, any idea of what they are, make, model etc?

thanks carsy for the link, I have read the write up from lotusandy but just wanted other peoples opinion. My girl friend is 6ft (without heels)and while she does not complain about leg room I know it is not comfortable for her, plus it's a friggin nightmare to get to the fuses and I do not like all the wires and mess on top of the battery terminals.

Gent's,

I have a kit I'm probably going to sell, includes - cables, battery, bespoke battery box & terminals.

I was going to do the mod earlier this year (before going to Le Mans) but never got round to it, I've now bought a Tuscan and put my Chimaera up for sale. If you're interested I can post some images of the parts - all new and unused.

Cheers
Richard

Moving the battery to the boot is probably one of the best things I did in mine ... The extra legroom is sooooo welcome and as I had the ECU swapped out at the same time then my footwell is now beautifully tidy.

I now need to sort out what I'm going to do with the battery itself as all I've done is mount the original battery box in the middle of the boot floor while I decide what battery I'm going to use and where I'm going to mount it...

If it's just about legroom, a smaller AGM-type battery will allow the ECU to be placed next to it instead of dangling in front. Doing so also removes the hazard of having possible battery acid spills in the passenger footwell.

I use an Odyssey PC925 that never failed to easily start the car after up to 2 weeks of sitting, and allows my 6'3"ish frame with long legs to be very comfortable in the passenger seat.

Personally I'm less than comfortable with having sparky things in the immediate vicinity of the fuel tank...

Can you still remove the roof ,if so why not just bolt it down ..

Is this really still a risk with modern sealed for life units.

Yes, can still get the roof panel in and out but the battery box mounted in the mddle of the boot floor takes up one hell of a lot of boot space and since mine's used every day for doing stuff like the Tescos run etc. then I'd really like to get it tucked up and out of the way if possible ... also stops the terminals getting battered about by stuff being packed in around the battery.

I had the 14CUX removed along with the loom and replaced with a CANEMS - the guys that did it (Lloyd Specialist Developments) mounted the ECU on an aluminium plate (used by the ECU as a heatsink) right at the end of the footwell just below the fuses but that gives me a good six inches more legroom...

I'm away for work at the moment but I'll try to find a photo...

How much of the loom did they remove for the new ECU, what was the price and how are you finding it?

You Chimp owners are blessed with the fact you can move the battery behind the passenger seat into the cubby hole. There should be enough slack in the Land Rover loom to enable the fuse board to move as well.
Never seen one there but heard it a couple of times.

The whole engine loom was removed (including the fuel pump feed) which is what I was wanting as I was sure my cutting out / misfire issue was down to a loom fault ... I went to see a few places who just wanted to cut / splice the existing loom and I wanted it *GONE*.

It was about £2k all in ... drive-in-drive-out.

I thought I had some on my phone but it seems not ... I'm sure I've posted some up here before on one of the CANEMS threads so maybe take a search for that?

Otherwise I can take some when I get back home at the weekend...
