My 2001 Ford Cougar C2

Well Hello. I'm Dan, 20 Years old. This is my 11'th car in 3 years of driving (For the record, none crashed! All sold on for a profit bar my BMW which kersploded and i broke it for bits to make my money back), but hopefully the one i stick to! Decided to treat myself to it as i've wanted one since my dad got his C1 V6 about 7 Years ago.

It's my second Ford Cougar, I paid £450 for a Silver 2L Zetec one a year or so ago, but just being 19 at the time insurance was quite high and tbh it was tatty. Sold it on for about £700. I'm now paying just under a grand fully comp on this V6 one Its actually cheaper to insure than another 2L Zetec one!

Anyhow, About the car.

It's a 2001 Ford Cougar 2.5 C2 V6 In Amazon Green. (There were only around 500 ish of the Facelift Cougars sold, as opposed to the 11 thousand odd of the C1's!)

It has all the toys, Full heated leather, Climate control, TC etc Everything works

70K Miles with full Ford service history, two previous owners.

And only cost me £1500. Id consider that a lot of car for the money! And i'm very very happy with it.

So far covered about 350 miles in the week i've had it, Averaging between 28-32MPG, Not bad for a V6 I guess? My dad gets around 35 ish out of his but he does drive like a vicar. I believe he even had 37MPG on a run once.


So far all i've done is swap in my stereo.

Dont really have any plans for it as of yet bar the weekly clean/polish

Maybe an exhaust system some time in the near future? And a few other bits to tidy up the appearance.

Nice car, looks good in green. You certainly can get alot of car for your money with these, I was looking at them a while ago for a run around and couldn't believe the prices of them. My biggest problem with them is the seats, Ive never sat in something so terrible!

Nice car, I was looking at these a few months ago but just couldn't find a decent one in the spec I wanted. The quotes I ran for insurance came back very cheap on them, even at 18!

Smart cars these, they look particularly fetching in that shade of blue that adorned many nice Fords of the era! No doubt a lovely comfortable cruiser for not much cash now.

I love them, i hated my dads when he first got it but it really grew on me And yeah it took me close to a year to find a decent V6 C2 In Black/Green with low miles. Worth the wait.

Indeed, i couldnt beleive how cheap it was. For a same condition ST200/ST24 Mondeo (Low mileage and all) You're looking at 2k+

The C2's have better seats, The C1 leather seats had no support and i agree were awful! However the seats in mine are epicly comfy! See the pictures, they have more support/a better seat in general

And the rear seats arent ideal. But i dont care, im driving it And you can fit two adults in there no problem.

Also very much debating different wheels.

But i rarely see any Cougars with different wheels and haven't seen any i prefer to the standard alloys as of yet.

Tempted by a set of ST24 Alloys. I think they'll look nice. Not sure atm though.

Aren't these just a heavier, less practical and uglier version of a Mondeo though? That probably explains why they're cheaper

Isn't a Jag x-type just a mondeo also?

And as for uglier, looks are subjective. I like how the Cougar looks personally, i know a lot of people that dont, but thats doesnt bother me because i drive it, not them

And the Mondeo is a great car. And i wouldnt say its that much less practical, bar the back seats. The boot is HUGE.

And weighs in at about 1342 kg.. Not too heavy.

Managed 38MPG to/from work today, not bad for a V6 :P

Really? That on the trip? I never managed over 26mpg in my ST24.

Yep. Its now dropped to around 35. I didnt really go above 2k revs bar doing 60mph.

Not paying attention/driving normally every day i average 28-30MPG. I had to REALLY try to get 38 and it was boring, wont be doing it again Was just to prove a point to my dad who also has a V6 cougar and he gets around 32-35 average.
