Hi All,

After I take the body off the chassis of my S3 the next item will be to take out the engine and gearbox.

When I have the engine out of the car can I just rest it on the floor?? I'm worried that the sump might crack under the weight. I don't really want to buy an engine stand if I can avoid it.

Anyone have experience in these matters.

Thanks in advance

Sitting on the sump is fine, just don't drop it and don't let it fall over. If you're using an engine hoist you could just leave it on the hoist?

Engine stand from Machine Mart is only about 40 quid, we've got one in the engine shop for the dragster and it makes working on the engine a breeze!

Thanks for the advice lads. I guess I will just leave it on the engine hoist while the chassis is being done.

Mine was fine on the floor for a couple of weeks. I left it attached to the hoist so it couldn't fall over but didn't support any of the weight with it.
