After nearly four years of Aston ownership, and two Vantages, I'm having to part with the P&J.

A new family member is already ruining my weekend enjoyment, and it doesn't arrive until early next year. In summary, need something with 4 proper seats that still flicks my switch as a great sports/GT, which isn't too old mannish!

Went and had a look at some Maserati GranTurismos on Friday. They seem to fit the bill in terms of the styling/noise/practicality etc - anyone got any first hand experience? They're huge compared to a Vantage though!

However my question is this... when enquiring about trade-in to get a ball-park feel for what extra I'd have to put in I was rather alarmed as to the quote. Details of my car:
V8 Vantage Roadster 2007. No dings/scratches marks etc.
Graphite with Black Leather.
All usual options (SatNav, 19s, Bluetooth, Premium Audio, Heated Seats etc)
21,000 miles and I'm the second owner.
Full AM (Reading) service history, last done in June.

Trade-in value offered - "it'll be somewhere in the low thirties, sir. About £32,000"....... Seriously! I'm guessing that's Maser/Ferrari dealers for you - either that or the bottom of the Aston market has fallen out in the last few days!

For a Roadster with 21K miles?

Looking in classifieds they generally retail in the Low to mid 40s for a 2007, dependant on mileage.

Is it really the norm for dealers to be making £8-10K on a part-ex, let alone what they make on the car they sell!

Rich,

You will need to punt it around several dealers. You will be amazed at the difference yes

Obviously not the best time of year to be selling a cab but you knew that already.

I know that Porsche look at around £5k on a p/x. Makes me laugh when they say that these marques hold their prices well. They do but only for the dealers involved.

Aston will look at making 7-8k I think as they will service, refurbish and offer a factory warranty on it. Ferrari will just screw you as I doubt they'll sell it anyway, just straight to AM. Aston will rhen punt it out at 43-45ish... So somewhere will be an offer of 37ish I'd say if you ask around. Either that or offer it privately on here, you'll get a decent price although bad time of year...
Might even be worth waiting for next March..?

The Masers are plentiful and won't be going anywhere. And they're great cars by all accounts, say hello on sportsmaserati.com great bunch who I still tour with despite selling my 4200 2yrs ago!

Warning, all three of my kids managed to throw up in my Landrover when they were little so the thought of that happening in something nice would be too much to bare.

Gotta say that seems stupid money when you think you have to pay
£28k for a nice DB7 VV that is now over ten years old. Perhaps it's
because of the large numbers of V8's that they produced and the market
is saturated, but more likely to be just greedy b*****d dealers!!

As always good advise from Lewis......I think if you advertised it at 39.5 k you would realise 38k ish .......part x ing to a main dealer would be the simple but, very very expensive route......you will probably save 6k by selling the car privately and buying the new car with no part x ......it depends how impatient you are and how rich .........the middle option is to get on the phone to Aston dealers and try and squeeze 36k but as previously mentioned its a terrible time to sell a ragtop ........good luck

Don't forget that 32k isn't retail though! It's a lousy Part-ex offer wink

My DB7VV was a lovely example, it was valued at 26k+ however I sold it for (I think) £21.5k - what things are worth aren't what they sell for, I think most would struggle to get a DB7 out the door for 28k, cetainly not privately!

Judging by the trade-in I got for my Noble against my V8V a couple of months ago - yes, that's exactly what they expect.

Posted this before but Stratstone actually lost money on my old V8V. Not that concerned as in their eyes it was another owner to the fold and they had got me into something a little more expensive. I'm sure every dealer varies but it seems the DP at Hagley is just happy to turn a profit on anything.

I'd pretty much decided to sell privately anyway, it's how I've always sold cars in the past.

Not the best time of year to sell a Roadster though, especially after our awesome summer... Hmm!

Question is, if private value is £42-45k now, will it be worth the same still in 5-6 months, ie just before the summer? Whilst it'll no doubt be easier to sell then, I assume it'll be worth a fair bit less than now; or is the Cab market really that seasonal that I'll actually get a better price in May/June?

Cabriolets always sell better from April onwards as summer approaches. If this was May or June I bet you would have been offered more than £32K trade-in. The last thing a dealer wants is to have a cabriolet on the forecourt tying up capital and with nobody thinking about open top motoring until next summer.

Of course, a potential customer can get a great deal on a cabriolet, especially on a rainy day at quarter or year end smile

But am I likely to get more than current value of I wait 5-6 months for the summer? I guess that's the exam question which is somewhat difficult to answer.

That's the several thousand pound question... And I don't know the answer. I bought my Volante in January (2 years ago) and was told that a few months later it would have been worth 5k more...

I've had a gran turismo and a grand turismo s. simple really, only consider an s. but be warned.....it ain't no vantage.

Oh and you're missus will be constantly telling you to slow down and the sprogs will feel sick in the back. The satnav / phone / media system will drive you nuts and the electrics may or may not work depending on how it feels that day. However, it will make a glorious noise and in 4.7 s guise with the semi automatic gear box, it'll be the most fun you've ever had in a tunnel.

To help with your decision making, sold the Maz for a range rover and then treated myself to a vantage a year later. Best of both worlds.

Rich - as you note, it is indeed a bad time to be selling a Roadster. It is possible that it could be worth more next Spring, and I was amazed at how prices firmed up this Spring.

Ringing around the Dealers with a spec sheet may bear some fruit -

Lloyd at Grange Exeter
Rachel at Boughtons Cheltenham
Samantha at Wilmslow
Max at JCT600
Jon McGurk at..erm...McGurks Indy

You would be surprised at the spread of offers you will get.

As an example, Cheshire-based Mikey K bought his new car from Exeter. My car was shipped down from Newcastle. People will travel and your best offer could be from afar.

Good luck either way smile
