Fixing Heater Question
Discussion
Hi all
I have searched through the threads on here regarding non working heaters.
Checked the heater ecu plug and it looks mint.
Basically my hot-cold adjuster no longer sounds like its moving the flap in the heater.
So i set about looking at it on saturday only to find the two pods under the bonnet
really do not want to come out.
So my question is can the heater flap be got at via the top dashboard being removed.
Thanks John

John are you doing this blind or using Graham Varleys manual?
I have exactly the same problem and have been inside the heater box twice now to fix it.
You'll need to undo all screws on both boxes (Heater and A/C)
The end of the heater heater box goes into the bulkhead about 5cm and it takes quite a bit of side to side jiggery pokery to get it off, but it will come. Once in, you will see a letterbox sized opening with a similarly sized flap. At first this was just siezed and after a few manual flipping and some lube, it worked fine. A few months later it stopped again and this time the motor appears to be doing nothing, only problem is, the motor is rivetted to the base of the box and there is no way in hell that you could remove it from the top. After a few hours of investigation, it turns out that you access the rivets from the battery bay.
So to change the stepper motor it appears that you need to get the car up, remove the offside front wheel, remove the battery, then work up from the inside.
Suffice to say, mines still u/s and I'll get it done next time its in for its service.

However, one thing to check is the 2-pin connector to the motor, revealed once you remove the cover by the battery box.
I had trouble with mine earlier after I'd been through some of the deep puddles that we've had this summer!!
A good spray with electrical restorer had my fan motor doing the business soon afterwards.
Just realised Ben was talking about the stepper motor - mine was held in with self tappers. So, I guess you can drill out the rivets and replace with screws. But, the fan motor itself is a tad exposed, so it's worthwhile giving it a spray and cleaning the connectors too.
