I wonder if anybody has refurbished the lattice type OZ rims from the early Griff. The wheels are with the refurbishment company who have suddenly announced that they can’t handle split rims although it was made very clear that they were just that...they even quoted for new bolts before deciding not to do them. I am in Essex – has anybody had these wheels done around this area?

Many thanks.

I didn't think split OZ's could be successfully re-laquered. Are you having them powder coated silver grey or left natural. Interested, as I have one rim that is slightly scuffed.

I was told that they could be done - the company was given all the info but then declined when they saw them - Alternative is to buy some new rims - the refurb was going to be in excess of £400 !.. M

Hi Stonkn,

There just happens to be another similar thread on this at the moment, have a quick read... here.

I had my OZ wheel refurbed. Most, if not all places, will not re-lacquer the wheels because when the bolts are put back on it just cracks and leads to water ingress again. Mine are bare aluminum - just keep them waxed/polished and they stay good.

Have a chat with these places:
www.splitrims.co.uk (they did mine)
www.premierwheelrepairs.com (read good things, never used them though)
www.spitandpolish.co.uk/home.html (again, not used but read about)

Moycie - many thanks for the info - just following through all your leads - Interestingly, my contact had passed them to Spitt & polish & they were the ones who said they could not do them!.

No probs. I had BBS split rims on my old BMW, but never found anywhere who would touch them, as the moment you said they were 2 piece or 3 piece split rims they ran a mile. They hate to split them, so probably S&P stipulate you must split them first.

Splitrims did my OZ wheels - great job as far as I am concerned - I wish I knew of them when I had my old BMW, as they seem to do a lot of the BBS wheels!

Back when I had a set of original OZ wheels I found an article on a Lotus forum detailing exactly how to split them how to reseal them after painting and I think where to get the bolts. I seem to think they were used on the early Esprit.

Don’t suppose that helps at all but thought I would mention it anyway.

had mine done near sevenoaks (same industrial estate as quaife engineering are on).... had the rims adonised to save on the constant polishing, apparently you can now get bright adonising which is nice n shiny
