I have just put the cank back in using assembly lubricant on new bearings. The big ends are not in yet.

The crank seems a little tight and sticky. It takes around 35lb ft to get it turning, but once it is turning it requires less force. Not having done this before I am not sure what to expect. Looks like I may have to get hold of plastigauge to check clearences before I go any further.

I can just get (pretty tight) a 2 thou feeler gauge each side of the central main bearing at the same time.

Any thoughts /experience much appreciated.

Matt

We had this once...it was a crap set of main shells. New set cured it. Hope you have had your crank checked/measured/polished etc 1st....ask Dom at power for some or rimmed bros . H

I bought them from V8 D so do not expect to have issues.

My problem is with No. 4 cap, the rest are fine. Had it in and out a coupe of times to re-seat cap and bearings but same issue occurs.

Crank looks in very good condition and came out of my well looked after motor with no issues at 80k miles. The old bearings also looked in good nick as well as a result I did not get it checked.

I will see if I can switch a set of bearings over and see if the issues moves tomorrow morning.

Thanks,

Matt

Hi Matt, your right to raise the issue for sure. Can't add more than x-works said but be good to see result, keep us posted and good luck.

Well I switched one of the bearings and No4 still goes tight. On removal you can see it is tight as there is a thicker film of lube on the other bearings. Picking through the old bearings one set look more worn than the others.

I spoke to V8D who suggested this is likely to be the block gone out of true so would need to be line bored.

Oh well, it could be worse, at least I have the replacement to go in and the 500 engine & pistons are still worth a few bob on eBay hopefully. I am going to put them on today with a full description of the issue.

Thanks,

Matt
