So after coming home earlier and parking my car, i come back out earlier to find this:

Angry doesn't describe how i feel right about now. I knew what car was parked behind mine and now it is parked further down the street. I knocked on the door it is now outside of for it to be opened by a lady of Eastern European origin, who admits that the car was parked by mine earlier and it is her boyfriends. He comes out and denies everything, even the fact that the car was parked behind mine.
Now the thing is there is evidence of fresh black paint on his bumper but i can't take any decent pictures because i only had my phone to hand.
As far as i can tell it's a new bumper job, as it is a deep crease and cracked paint.
I don't really want to involve insurance as i am a young driver and my premium is bad enough as it is without a claim on my file, and a new bumper isn't going to cost the earth anyway.
It's not really the damage that has pissed me off, it's his blatant lies to my face after the lady had admitted that his car was parked behind mine earlier.

what makes you so sure he did it?
what side of the road was it on and which way were each of you facing what sort of car was his?
that looks like the sort of dent you would only get if someone were to reverse into you at an angle, so unless he did a 3 point turn i don't see how a car parked behind you would be likely to do that

It was definately him. It was parked outside my house and i was at my brother's house 4 doors away, in his front room helping him re-arrange it and saw him go and no other car was parked in that space between then and me noticing the damage.what side of the road was it on and which way were each of you facing what sort of car was his?

Report it to the police, might work? Will cause him some grief at least, hope his insurance/visa etc are up to date.
I dont want the hassle to be honest, or for this to turn into a tit-for-tat thing. The last thing i want is to have to worry about parking my car outside my house, well, any more than i am now at least.Like i said, it's not the damage that has annoyed me because i was planning on getting a new bumper anyway, as the previous owner had decided to cut that square shaped hole in the bumper for some reason, it's just the fact that he is denying being parked there, even after his partner admitted that much to me.

Absolute waste of time. With no witnesses to the crash, or even the fact that he was driving there shall be no case. For the owner of the Civic - that sucks! I hope it doesn't cost too much to sort. Painting a bumper is not difficult, I did one for my dad when he reversed into a post, and it won't be too much from a breaker.

Are you absolutely 100% sure the damage wasn't already there when you parked? Looks more like you reversed into a bollard than something that another car could do, except for (possibly) a tow bar.
100% sure yes. I had been to a course in the afternoon and nowhere else, there was no damage when i left the course and i didn't hit anything on the way home, so there was no damage when i parked it up.JQ said:

My first thought was that looks like a towbar has done that damage. Has that fella's car got a hook on the back?
This. Bumper to bumper contact would not make such a severe dent.

It WAS bumper to bumper contact, with the corner of his bumper hitting mine, and there was fresh black paint flakes on the corner of his bumper.
Circumstantial... All that means is he has black paint on his bumper doesn’t mean it came from your car.. I agree with the others who think it looks like Tow Bar damage, how do you know someone with a tow bar didn’t turn around behind your car? Someone either at my work or where I used to live caved in the near side of my front wing without me even knowing about it. In fact the person who pointed it out to me was the guy who was buying it and he saw it before I did after I arrived at our meeting - imagine the look on my face! Anyway, I got it fixed and got over it. You have no proof so find a good bodyshop and it'll be fine. Welcome to the world of other drivers.

What was the other car? amazed you've ended up with damage like that and his car just a small amount of fresh paint splinters from your car.
Hope you get it sorted without to much hassle.
You'd be surprised. From personal experience its quite common to see the victim car have a lot more damage then the offending vehicle with minor bumps like this.Hope you get it sorted without to much hassle.
I'd say there isn't much proof, so no chance of getting anywhere against him. Just source a bumper from somewhere. Check ebay for one in your colour you might get lucky.
Also be glad he didn't hit a wing or a door. Much more hassle then replacing a bumper. If you find one in your colour its bolt off and bolt on.
To put an end to this, it was definately him as between there being no damage and there being damage, his car was the only one to be behind mine in the space.
I know there's no 'proof' other than what i have said, but i don't intend on going through insurance or anything so i don't need 'proof'.
Basically, i know he did it and so does he and his partner but he is denying it, and this is what annoyed me rather than the actual damage caused as i intended to replace the bumper anyway as it has a cut in it from the previous owner.
I just suppose that everybody in this world doesn't have the same morals and conscience that i do, because if i caused any kind of damage i would be mortified and at least leave a note if i couldn't find the owner.
I guess i'll just have to chalk it up to experience.
Edit - For those interested, the other car was a 53 plate vectra.
