Roof velcro coming loose

The velcro bit of the roof that is glued to the body is coming away on mine. What's the best thing to stick it back down with?

Not too sure what bit you describe, but in general a contact adhesive would be required Evo Stick etc.

The bit he means is what holds the lower part of the hood down, you pull it up from the velcro when putting the roof down. Evostick as Al say's works. I have seen Chimaera's with a rivet in place too.

Thanks for the tips. So it's OK to Evostick onto the bodywork? Oh yeah, and I do mean the bit that you are supposed to unstick every time you take the hood down. Actually, thinking about it, it doesn't make direct contact with the bodywork does it?

Ours is pop riveted too - no more velcro coming loose problems.

Where can this be done and at what cost?

Easy enough to do it yourself.
Small pop rivet guns are available from any DIY outlet - think they are about £15.
The hole only needs to be 3mm and the rivets are about £2 for 10-20.
From memory ours has two rivets either side.

So, just drill holes in the bodywork along where the existing tape is, and then use the gun to attach the rivets? Then do the same on the hood itself? Is it THAT simple?

It was done when I bought the car - not sure if the roof piece is done - it may be stitched!!!
Have to check later.
I guess it is as easy as that. Put some tape over hwere you want to drill and take it very slowly - one slip and you're fooked.

That's what concerns me, hence my question about where else it can be done!

You should be OK if you take it slowly. My cordless is variable speed so if you did it really slowly with a small pilot you'll be alright.
I suggest you would take care than if you let someone else loose on it.

If your going to drill fibre glass then tape as previously suggested and use a small bradle to mark (small indentation) the position where you want to drill, minimises the possibility of the drill slipping.

Ed to add
DO NOT USE A CENTRE PUNCH to mark the hole position, a hammer blow could crack the fibre glass.

The velcro piece on the car is around 7 inches long and held on by 3 rivets - one near each end and one in the middle. The piece on the hood is stitched.
If I bought one without this being done I would definately do it.

Peninsula pop-riveted mine when asked.

I would also put some silicoln sealant in the hole if you do it yourself as otherwise the lock mechanisms could get wet.
