crash helmet - dumb question

I want to buy a helmet to take my car on a track day. Is a motorcycle helmet the same thing/suitable?

It's not important for track days, you need one that meets MSA standards for racing however.

Will do for most track days but not racing.

Thanks - its just track days so its easier for me to get a M/C one.
