For a week for me flying 10 hours is too much, some people it doesn't bother but I'd be halfing that flight time for a week. Is the 7 days due to money or annual leave/other commitments? Generally longer the flight the more expensive so that also cuts into your budget-depends on what discount the MIL can get?

Depends what you and your other half like but assuming as you mention AI you want usual package type stuff?

Sticking to your 10 hours if you want to kick back and do sweet FA Maldives-no where else I've been top it for an R&R beach holiday.

A great deal of the Caribbean is with 10 hours.

Bit more adventurous: safari

Left field (if you want AI)

Cape Town (OK more like 11 hours but only 1 hour time diff so compensates) see the city hire a car, see the winelands and drive around. Fantastic country and your money goes faaaaaar. Cape Town has some cracking restaurants. We were often getting 3-5 courses with drinks in high end places and getting change out of £50.

As I'm finding out over the the last 18 months since the £ is stronger agianst the euro I've been seeing allot more of Europe and enjoying not having 10+ hour flights. Some of the most interesting places are right on our doorstep a short journey from the UK.

Sandals emerald bay is stunning, failing that the grande in st Lucia is pretty nice too!

Just come back from The BodyHoliday in St Lucia, absolutely stunning and highly recommended, although would suggest 10 days.
