Discussion
Basically, I am after a new car, but just don't know what one to get. I have narrowed my choices down, but would also like some advice.
Yes, they are not all the same type of carnor are they in the same price brackets, but thats why I need help.
Should I go for:
Old XKR 4.0
Current shape XKR but the 4.2 version
TVR T350
Nissan 350z (prefer the look compared to 370)
or a Maserati 3200
The car will be my daily, but this is only 25 miles return, though it will also take the place of my current Wednesday (read weekend) car. I am open to other suggestions, though whatever it is, it needs to feel a little special, no barges and no hothatches please.
Thank you in advance.

Old XKR 4.0 - why when you could get the newer one? i think this car is so ugly, outdated & horrible.
Current shape XKR but the 4.2 version - choose this. they are real nice (albeit feel like grandpa cars).
TVR T350 - i would not want this as a daily, nasty to be inside & unreliable
Nissan 350z (prefer the look compared to 370) - boyracer car, but if you like that sort of thing then & want more excitement its better than the xkr
or a Maserati 3200 - i think they look old and outdated, but its nice to have a maserati (well certainly better than a nissan!), though it probably wont be built fantastically & reliability may be an issue

DB7
Have considered and disregarded the DB7, as lovely as it is, having done some research, parts are not only expensive, but also hard to find. I work for a main dealer and even my parts department (though not the best I must admit) stuggled to find much for them. Also if something does go wrong, there is nowhere nearby that could help out. At least with the jag theere are more local places to hand. DB7
Unfortunately, as petty as it seems, I just couldn't get a porsche, as one of my mates has just bought a cayman s, and so many would see it as me copying him. Don't get me wrong, it was beautifull to drive, but just not for me yet.

I actually really like the look of the old shape XKR, may be partly to do with having a cased model of one when I was younger. Power wise its still pretty much the same as the newer shape, and they did actually put the 4.2 in it too (though about 20bhp down on newer shape car due to a different charger pulley i believe)Current shape XKR but the 4.2 version - choose this. they are real nice (albeit feel like grandpa cars).

The 350z may have a bit of stigma of boyracer-ness. But again, I think they look quite brute like and would still be nice to push on with.
I think the maseratis look great, but again I know parts would be an issue, but I could kind of justify one over a new shape xkr due to price difference, but not over an older one, but then they are older and the new one looks more sporty and has extra power - these are the circles I am ging round.

Maseratis are very well built, but I'd go for a 4200. However, driving it on short journeys all the time won't do it any favours and, if a flappy paddle one, you'll go through the clutch faster. As an ex-Maerati owner, go for the newer Jag.
interesting, thank you for that, but why? what are your reasons?Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
