Photoshop or Paintshop?

Looking at these two packages for Photo and video editing

Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 & Adobe Premiere Elements 11 at £119.14

or

PaintShop® Pro X5 and VideoStudio® Pro X5 at $129.99

I have used Paintshop before and find it fine, but are there strong opinions either way?

Pros/cons etc.

I might be wrong but the industry standard seems to be Photoshop and there's probably a reason for that.

It's what I've used for the past 10 years.

Thanks, will probably give it a go then, always scared of new stuff!
Isit easy to use? Paintshop has always almost led me through stuff by the nose.

PSP is definitely the easier of the two to get to grips with and more user friendly, but Photoshop knocks it into a cocked hat. Elements is superb these days.

Although I have to balance that by saying that if you've used various version of PS, PSE 10 is - for me - painful and cumbersome because I use it so relatively infrequently. I think this ties in with familiarity and potential for other packages to "seem" simpler to use.

However, there's so much resource on PS and PSE available that it is a (relative) doddle to find out how to do stuff.....

I use Elements 10 for the raw conversion, and a very very old Paint Shop Pro for all other work (both use layers). I’ve stuck with PSP as it’s what I’m used to (like an old pair of slippers!). But both are good PP software. You can download a free trial of both programs, why not do that and see which one works for you.

I use Lightroom and Photoshop (on occasion) - Lightroom is dead easy and Photoshop is daunting... However, for very basic and quick photo manipulation, I use an (old old old) Paintshop Pro 5.01

I used to used PSP ages ago and I loved it. It was very capable. It had some features that Photoshop didn't have then (though I can't remember what they were!) I have no idea what the recent versions are like though......

Well I have had a little play with Photoshop elements 11 and am quite impressed will have a go with PSP x5 next!

Well that decides it! opened X5 and......what a mess! confusing, even though I am an X3 user I found the UI cluttered and non intuative, whereas Elements was well laid out and easy from the off.

Decision made!
