A friend needs to buy a new car after a Hungarian lorry ran into the back of his Hyundai coupe. He begrudges spending money on something which will depreciate. He doesn't like cars.
He wants something that looks nice but which doesn't have a posh badge. He wouldn't go near a Mercedes, Jaguar or BMW. An Audi is about as far as it goes and he'd rather be in Peugeot/Volvo territory.
It must be a two door coupe with OK rear seats. It needs to look rakish, not "a box on wheels". Fuel economy is important, and toys. Lots and lots of toys. Cruise control is essential.
Manual or automatic, slight preference for manual. He doesn't understand the point of the question "front or rear wheel drive".
I sent him to look at a CR-Z which ticked all the boxes except that the rear seats are too small. He occasionally needs to get teenagers in there.
Think of it as an inverse PH choice, think of everything which makes the integrale cool and he wants the opposite.
What should I send him to look at?

If he begrudges spending money on things which depreciate, an old non-prestige brand may suit.
If he wants depreciation proof then the perception surrounding brands such as Peugeot/Hyundai won't help him protect the car's value. If he cares about depreciation, a Scirocco? And if not, a Peugeot RCZ?

Except...
It's a Renault, and so means handing thousands to the evil, incompetent after sales service. I had a resistor go in the heater fan of my scenic. A resistor is a part which costs less than a penny. Guess what it cost to fix? go on have a guess, I'll answer in a bit.
