V70 Diesel Cat C

I've just been offered a V70 diesel 2004/05, that was a cat C. It was an osr impact, and the insurer wanted to replace the rear quarter, so wrote it off. A mate of mine bought it from Twigworth, and is doing the work himself. It's not going to be a perfect job, but I reckon it will do for me.

He wants £2000 for it with a year's MOT. There's no history with it, and it's done 158000 miles. Worth a punt, or run away? At the moment I've got a 407SW with just over 200k on it, the same age.

No it's not worth it...

Do the PH thing and get a T5, with fewer miles, and take solace in that your additional fuel duty is helping this country out of its economic woes.

At the moment, I do a lot of miles. A T5 would be very appealing if I got a more local job!

If it were 15,800 miles then yes, but 158k?!

£2k for a CAT C car repaired by "some bloke" that's only £2,500 worth without the damage? I'd consider it for a grand maybe, if the rest of the car was solid, safe in the knowledge you'll never be able to sell it on.

I sold my 52 plate T5 a year ago for around £650 , great condition but had 160,000 otc

Yeah, you're right. For some reason I had it in mind they were a lot more money than that - £3500 and up. I'd keep it until it was worthless anyway - I do between 40 and 50k a year. I'm pretty sure he paid £1400 for it. I feel a bit bad, because I sold him a van a while ago that turned out to be a bit of a knacker.

I was offered a Saab 9-3 1.9 tdi sport 55 reg done 85000 miles last week for 2350 and that is not a damaged repaired cat anything.

I had a couple of 850s a long time ago, and fancied getting back into a Volvo. Or an E39.
