I received an email from Brian at 1st Tickets yesterday, as i'm sure a lot of others did too.

In his email it talks about a new FIA International kart circuit being built on Karting Nord, just wondered if anyone knew more and obviously this will impact this years event as its the death of another campsite.

Is this replacing the existing track? If so I imagine the karting pits will be coming down as well which is a shame as the pit roof makes a damn fine viewing point.

Made a video last year from the roof in the middle of the night

Just out of curiosity (& a little off topic) how do you get to go on the pit roof? Via the Karting track & just go up the stairs? I thought about it this year, but didn't want to get told off for being a stupid foreigner

I'll caveat this by saying it was definitely that simple at the Classic, but I'm not 100% sure if it's entirely accessible during the main event. If it *is* available, it can get a bit busy up there at times, but worth the walk / wait.

Pffft, amateur wink

Besides, I work on the basis that they're probably thinking that anyway, so I just confirm their assumption !!

Not been that way for a couple of years but back 2008/9 about half was corporate but the other half open and free.

Karting pits "grandstand" accesible either through Karting Nord or from Kart Circuit access road. Security on road here so need to show GA ticket. Pit stand is free (one year there was somebody collecting 5 Euros or so, never saw him again so figure it was a scam, must have made a fare ammount though). If you get bored with the racing just turn around and watch the concession karts spinning all over the place.

This is an excellent place to watch, especially at night when the LMP1s seem to be going at twice their normal speed.

From the plans on display at the Kart 24 Hours and Fete de L'ACO, the Alain Prost Karting circuit will remain along with the existing pits.

Saw on one ticket site that karting nord not available in 2013 so does that mean Kart track redevelopment will deny camping totally there? will be a helluva kart track when finished

I just found out that Karting Nord will be shut in 2013 and possibly 2014 too for the redevelopment of the karting track.

No karting Nord so you will need to find an alternative for 2013 onwards, but plenty of choice and few will be sold out at this time so decide what you want and book early to avoid disapointment

Might stop the tossers blocking the road trying to get cars to do wheel spins!

But I doubt it frown

Thread resurrection, but I've seen a few shots of the new track during the Le Mans TV coverage today.

I see the Alain Prost circuit is still there, along with the pits, and a new track has been built where the campsite used to be. New track looks huge from the limited shots I've seen, and it looks like the canteen has been replaced by a large new building.

Anyone have any more details or photos? Friends of mine are heading down to the 24-hour kart race next month and wondering which track they'll be using.

Its massive. Karting Nord is gone for good as a campsite, no doubt about that. Didn't take a photo as we went down there at dusk saturday so it wouldn't have come out, sorry. Try the MS/Bing sat map rather than google, its more up to date for the northern end of the circuit so you might be lucky.
