I know I'll be preaching to the choir but I just wanted to note just how well these little jerry rockets are put together.

Mine isn't a GT3 RSR UBER PANZER KOMMONDANT HIMMEL ACHTUNG 4 but a lowly 30 year old 944. It is, in fact, one of the very first RHD 944 ever made, thus it is a bit of a test mule compared to the later S2 etc.

Anyway, like all my cars it gets mullered absolutely senseless, a lot of the time on non tarmaced roads.

I've just spent/invested quite a considerable sum of dosh with my brilliant mechanic. In fact he's just put 60 hours into the car.

It drives, corners and brakes like new. Quite astonishing.

Anyway, as you were chums.

Here you go. It is quite snotty but it is a lovely little thing, especially considering it is now 30 years old.

I've had one 'fast' Porsche before (996TT) and also a much older (early 60's 356) but the 944 seems to have a charm all of its own. Mine is a very early one - registered on a 1982 Y plate but late 1981 manufacture. A chum of mine works at Pork HQ in Jerryland and he pulled the file. It is bordering on being a prototype RHD 944 and uses a lot of odd mixed Porsche bin parts. Fast forward a year to the '83 model and a lot changes under the bonnet (not power/engine etc but connections, pipe work, hoses etc.) Working on it has been a bit interesting at times as there is no accurate manual for my car.

She's just been treated to a full brake and suspension rebuild, oil cooler seals, some little niggly electrical jobs and a lot of general TLC. It now drives absolutely beautifully, superb balance, enough power.

I'll be using it for 2 things: my daily snotter for the 6 mile return commute and secondly to race/rally. It is entered into the HERO Throckmorton Challenge a week today, we'll see how she does against our class (Escort Mk2 RS2000, Porsche 911SC, late MGB Roadster, Mini 1275GT and a few others). Then a week later I'm taking her to Croft circuit for some fun with the MX5 boys - I'm happy with the setup of the car now.

A few snaps:
