Fantastic video. But its not the end, thanks in part to loads of enthusiast and companies such as KWE and Arden. Thanks for sharing that video. I think this is another oppurtunity to post a picture of mine...

Excellent, blimey even that cynical top gear journalist like it (what's his name again?) Just shows you what a great car it is. Give it a decent gearbox with lockup converter and it would be updated and much more usable.

I only have the humble 3.4 XJ6 S3; but it will be a cold day in hell before I get rid of it for something else.

Anyone think they should have given them the AJ6 that the XJS had and let it soldier on for a little longer?

Jag needed a new saloon, remember how the 7 series and S class moved the game on in interior quality and space, wind noise and general efficiency, whilst the series three stood still, aprt from the addition of ABS in I think 88. Whilst the XJ40 was not what we had hoped for it was a progression from the Series three, the X300 was the car that should've replaced the series Three..

I would have liked to have seen the 6 litre V12 in there, as an upgrade to the 5.3..

Okay, well maybe not too much longer, but at least as long as the XJS did!

The XJ40 had a great increase in room in the back, but in the front its quite cramped, especially the footwells - as is the X300 to some extent. The electrics take up all the room under the dash where your shins normally reside.

I think you're right in that it should have gone S3 - X300 though. I still think that when Jaguar were testing the AJ6 engine in the XJ6 in the mid to late 1970's they missed an oppotunity.

I`ve had a number of XJ40`s & Series XJ`s & can safely say the 40 is a superior car in every respect, handling, space, efficiency, reliability, rust etc.

To most the Series cars look better (although the XJ40 looks better now than it ever did), which is why Jaguar returned to the curviness of the previous generations.

Yes, this is strange. I used to loathe the XJ40 back in the day, but it now looks quite a tidy design. Maybe it is growing into its looks a la XJS.

Honestly, I loved the look of the XJ40 when it was plastered on Car Magazines front cover. I had the pleasure of using a XJ 3.6 TWR for a week and loved it. Honestly apart from the 2.0 X type there is not a Jag I liked, apart from the new series 1 S-type, the later revised version with the 2.5, with a proper dash board, was far better. Sorry Im digresing

You're probably right Rich, but then most journolist called it a cosy driving position. The thing about the X300 was that it was really built very well and 100 time more solid the the XJ Series III.

What ever has happened in the past I thinkJag are making up for lost ground.

Rich Post a picture of your 3.4, lets see it!

Here's mine, taken when I was camping in Newquay.

Here it is a couple of days ago with some of the others.

Not the best example as its starting to go a little around the windscreens and on one door corner; but its utterly dependable and my daily transport.

Funny, I was just thinking last weekend. Lady B8 runs a new model MB, in many many ways you can see what 16 years between her car and my X300 have been spent doing. The engineers have in deed been busy.
But we took the XJ6 away for the weekend and getting back into the MB afterwards you notice the wind noise and especially the tyre noise compared to the waft like ride of the XJ.
I'm sure the Merc would annihilate the XJ on a track too, actually I think my XJ would be an embarrassment on a track. But over British B roads, the XJ effortlessly covers ground at speeds that the MB makes harder work.
OK, so the MB is an E not a S, but when I bought the XJ the price of an XJ Sport was comparable with the 3ishL E-classes not the S.
As Rich says, the keys for my XJ will be pried from my cold dead hands one day. (Well unless the total furious nut job I met last night manages to hit me next time... coming off a round about on the wrong side, the wrong side of a traffic island, straight at me yikes (actually can I have the could I have the W212's brakes please))

As for the XJ12, my uncle had one of the first, when they were new. His retirement gift was an SIII Double Six VDP. Sadly he sold it when as an old man he and my Aunt could no longer comfortable get in and out and at the time he didn't know my interest in Jags so it went for peanuts with less than 30K on the clock. I'd have loved to have it tucked away in the garage.

Wow, my youtube account, with 995 videos that have been uploaded in the last 4+ years, has been disabled...

Many 100`s of hours (probably 1000`s) completely wasted...

Well, it terminated directly ater I uploaded two Fifth Gear clips (Jaguar X350 XJR & Red Victor One), and got a minor (non-terminal) copyright notice after the XJR one, so i suspected it had something to do with Channel 5, but after sending an appeal back it said I had 3 copyright claims, two because of music videos earlier this year, but one from a 1992 Top Gear lodged by the BBC yesterday...

The thing is, its not like anyone can access/buy these old clips from anywhere, I`m not causing anyone to lose any money, if anything all my video`s gave worldwide promotion to Top gear.

I was getting around 30,000 views a week, mainly on the Top Gear clips..
