TV car advertising

Is it just me or does anyone else find car advertising quite bizzare?
I've always thought them strange as they often don't really display the car, they usually just have some sort of theme.
Was at the cinema this morning and there were two shown. Firstly 2 guys skateboarding and doing various tricks - Smart for two, then Plu-ral platipus/platipi whats the plural of - Prius.
Maybe it's because I actually have a proper interest in cars and I want to know what a car is about rather than the 'look' I would achieve if I bought it.
Never have I watched a car advert and thought of the back of it, I want to buy that. Some adverts stick, some don't but what would have the most effect on me would be some actual information about the car rather than the latest saga of Nicole and Pa bloody Pa.
