Overtaking a hearse

long story short, on my way to work and running on time, turned a corner on a dual carriage way and noticed instead of 60mpg everyone was driving at 20 on the inside lane
for at least half a mile in front of me
so naturally i moved into the outside lane and as I drove along some cars started beeping and flashing their lights
as I got up I noticed it was a hearse with about 50 cars trundling along at a snails pace
now call me an insensitive b
d but surely theres no law against overtaking a hearse on dual carriage way
am I right?

I don't think there is any law (IANAL!!!) but I am sure many people consider it insensitive to overtake a funeral procession.
/ETA: just read that it was a dual carriageway. In that case, fair play.
They could have objected to the manner in which the overtake was done? Was it a waft past, or a screamer?

Really? These days? Certainly I would take extra care to not get in their way - avoid having to make them brake or turn on my account - but if I could pass them on a dual carriageway without impacting them at all, I bloody well would.
And I'd expect the same from other road users if I was in a funeral procession.

I was joing the M3 coming up a sliproad only to be confronted by a funeral procession doing about 55/60mph on the motorway. The undertaker's cars were all fairly close together, (maybe deliberately to stop people 'breaking in' to their convoy, I don't know?) so I was faced with a choice of ease my way into a gap I would normally leave for a bigger one, or slow right down so I would avoid them and join the motorway doing less than 40mph. Let's see if you can guess which one I chose.

This imo.To add to this story, I joined a roundabout off of a semi busy d/c last week and on the next entry to the roundabout there were a couple of hearses waiting to join. Now being in a big 50ft long lorry I took it apon myself to sit on the roundabout blocking the only lane so that the entire procession could join in one go, took maybe 15/20 seconds.
Everyone who stopped behind me could see the cars and what I was doing and sat there patiently, apart from the flatbed transit filled with scrap metal who started pressing his horn.
