I'm looking for cars that from the inside sound 'Yeah!' but the outside ''Meh'

What cars give their occupants a great tune whilst keeping the general public unaware?

For example, my car sounds good from inside but absolutely bloody fantastic and antisocial from the outside. Surely it would be better the other way round? That way I could hammer around enjoying the engine noise without upsetting joe public.

A recent test drive of the Toyota 86 revealed a very loud (synthesised I know) induction roar at full throttle - which was fun, with sod all sound on the outside.

I'm after real engine/ mechanical/ induction noise too - not the sound of a v8 piped over the speakers of a small Renault or similar (nothing against renaults btw)

Cheers

How about an MG ZT 260? On standard pipes they're almost silent from outside, but sound like this on the inside:

Another one - Smart Roadsters are hilarious from inside the car. This is one of my vids. The camera is over the engine, it's not quite as loud from the drivers seat but you get the idea:

Got any vids of your AMG so we can compare and contrast? biggrin

my Spitfire has this effect, sitting low, with no roof and an engine in front of you it sounds mental, (although the atmosphere of the car helps, as the bonnet vibrates etc...) but from the outside on a standard exhaust its interesting but a bit mehh... Compared to the wail from the straight six of a GT6 that is... biggrin

Last year I was given a Polo Fox as a courtesy car whilst my Tiguan was being serviced. Poverty spec little thing , very slow and completely forgettable. Except for one reason- it made the most fabulous noise- thanks to its three cylinders it sounded for all the world like a baby 911(and if I tried hard enough some of the harmonics sounded like a V12). So much nicer than the thrashy fours most of us drive .

V6 Clio is hardly quiet outside wink but as a general rule yeah. Cayman maybe? Not that I've been in one but as an example

BMW Z4 3.0 has a sound generator which channels intake noise into the cabin, whilst remaining quiet outside. The noise can be adjusted by adding or removing foam from the sound generator.

E39 M5 with the original silencers. Looks like any other 5 series but inside you can hear that V8, outside its pretty quiet

That gets my vote too. Inside, you get the most incredible induction noise when the revs climb, but the exhaust is so restrictive no one else gets to share the joy.

The D5 V70 sounds nice inside, hardly a Ferrari but for the devil's fuel I think it has a nice 5cyl growl, especially on the over run

I've never heard a V70 making progress, in fact, I've never heard a V70 period, so I can assume I am either the only one who uses the throttle or they are pretty quiet from outside...

Original Mini. The SU's sucking air like a pair of plumbers giving a quote at the same time inched from the bulkhead sounded awesome from inside the car but you couldn't tell from outside.

Some good suggestions guys thanks, keep them coming.

Despite my statement earlier about no fake stereo sound I have to put my hand up and say the 'soundracer' seems a like bit of a giggle. I'll get my coat...........

I reckon my S60 2.4t sounds pretty good at full chat, good 5cyl burble, then when just cruising along its quiet as a mouse.

This.

I took mine out and couldnt believe the sound difference. Everyone thats been passenger in the car has questioned whether or not the engine/exhaust is standard.
