Where to drive without a licence?

Hi guys, my wife currently has no licence due to medical reasons (will get it back in 18 months).

She's as much of a petrol head as I am and before her illness had a Boxster.

She is really missing driving but obviously no licence is a minor issue.

Is there anywhere she could drive my car (she's perfectly safe - just no licence) such as an airfield?

I am presuming track (days) need licences and there would be issue about indemnity insurance etc.

Strange request but maybe someone has some ideas.

BTW - we are SE based need Maidenhead.

I know there are places where you can take your kids, from the age of 12 or something to get them driving experience, so I guess having a license is not a deal breaker when it comes to insurance.

Obviously your wife wouldn't want o be driving a Micra round with a bunch of adolecents, but perhaps Googleing a company that does junior driving courses may throw something up.

Someone may know of a facility/airfield or the like that may be able to help you.

Nissan at Sunderland lets blind people drive on its test track once a year for charity, so again, there must be some way round it.

Anywhere around Bradford seems to be acceptable.

Where-ever you do find remember that it will not be regarded as private unless there is some sort of barrier (open or closed) or security which could be used to prevent the general public being allowed access

I know it might be a painful thing to ask, but what's the nature of the illness?

The reason I ask is because, is there any chance of her passing a medical for her race licence?

If so, then getting it is bloody easy and not overly expensive!

That does open up testing opportunities!

Also, what about karting/off reading etc?

She had a brain tumour in feb which was removed (ish) and has been undergoing radio and chemo therapy since.


She's pretty much fully active and as physically and mentally as before.

Have a crack at race licence medical. Shouldn't be more than £100 to get. Rest of licence £300. Track car eligible for test days £1k-£3k.

I was banned for 18 months about five years ago. (Diagnosed as Epilepsy??)

I couldn't find many things to do with regards to motorsport without a license. Even Go-karting for my stag-do required a license.

I considered other motor sports such as jet ski-ing, hovercrafting but all seemed like too much hassle - so I eventually went back to mountain biking for my 'kicks'. Luckily got my license back and had no more fits....

Get a ratty old disco and take her to a pay and play site. I've been to many, most of them don't even require the vehicle to be road legal, never mind the driver to have a license. I normally sign some form of waiver upon entry, then that's it. They have never asked a jot of detail for any of my passengers, nor have I ever been asked for my license.
