Need to buy Scalextric for a young lad as a present. What is a good place to start? Something like this?

Any suggestions appreciated.

He's 6/7 years if that matters.

Turbo flyers or the mp4-12c set. Avoid start if I was you.

20% off those prices with code sept12e (expires tomorrow.) If you are willing to spend more cash then consider the c1233 Gt40 set, very nice cars with lots more track.

Thanks. Think he'd prefer Porsche cars. What about this?

Sorry if I am asking basic questions, but I last owned Scalextric in about 1970...

Yea that's the turbo flyers I refer to. Ideal first set as the cars are the super resistant model (so less detailed but tougher for child use/abuse!)

Cheers.

Rather than start a new thread...

I got a set off the wife about 10 years ago, I can get a digital conversion kit for about £80, and need some cars, can anyone point me in the direction of a good retailer or is there anyone on here? I'd rather business went to a pher.

Rebuilding the set for my son as a Xmas pressie.

Russy, think I need some help please xxxx

Last night I dug out my old Sport set. Works fine (well, the one remaining car does)

I've got an old Grand Prix set (with a team Petrobas F1 type car) and added to that, I have this extension pack

which turns the track into a figure of eight.

Now, i'm about to buy a digital conversion pack, and a couple of digital cars (for my sons xmas present) but am now unsure as to whether this will affect the layout of the track in any way? And is there an inexpensive(ish) way to make a slightly larger track?

This is the kit I was going for.

Any advice welcome.

The conversion pack will do the job nicely, it comes with the extra pieces of track to even the circuit out when you add the lane changer. The power base will swap place with the current power base. The only other things you require are chips to digitalise your cars. However with the cars you have you my find it tricky as they are not dpr (digital plug ready).

As far as extra track goes. Well it's tricky, it's never cheap. I generally recommend picking up a complete set, that way you'll get the extra track and a pair of cars also.

I'll be honest and say that amazon are the cheapest place to get a set at the moment by a long shot.

A set like this will give you another figure of 8 of track and two new cars which can be converted to digital in seconds.

To convert dpr cars to digital you will require - c8515 or c8516 digital plugs. If the car is not dpr you will need either c7005 or c7006 chip which needs to be soldered into the car.
