AF confirmation on 7D

Morning all.

On my 450D, any AF points in focus turn red in the viewfinder.

My new 7D doesn't seem to be doing this. It does focus, but I'm not getting confirmation of where, which is really annoying when I get the nose track sharp and the eye slightly soft, for example.

I assume this is something I've inadvertently changed in the settings?

Are you in AI Servo mode? If so, then you don't get focus confirmation as it would be flashing like the lights on Blackpool Prom as your target moves

I don't think so. Think it's on one shot. I'll check this evening.

I deffo get focus confirmation in One Shot.

There's a custom function to toggle it - if I recall both just to illuminate the focus point and to make the whole grid flash red when focus is captured.

I get the whole grid flash thing.

Do you know which custom setting I need top toggle?

Try C.Fn III - 8

I think it's set to 0 (auto) by default - so the Focus Point and View Finder grid flashes to confirm focus capture only in low light.

If you set it to 1 (enable) you should get the Focus Point illumination and grid flash regardless of light level.

The other one I was thinking of was C.FN III 10 (Display Focus in AI SERVO/MF). Bu that's for AI SERVO, not for One Shot. As above enabling this one results in the Blackpool Illumination effect for fast moving subjects.
