What road bike ~ £700

Okay, i'm jumping on the roadie bandwagon....
I'm a commuter, Specialized Rockhopper, so have a decentish bike for the winter, but fancy a road bike for dry days and general out and about stuff. Really fancy the odd Sunday morning cobweb blaster...
My budget is circa £700. May possibly push to £800 if it was really worth the effort to do so.
Really know cock all about bikes, so help appreciated.

have a look at the ribble "winter" bike, its 7005 aluminium, good spec (you can spec it to budget using their bike builder), loads of them around and they are tough enough for commuting as well as faster rides. mudguard compatible, generally hard ot beat.
there are loads of others out there, specialsied allez, giant defy etc etc but they are more style than substance at that price.

The only answers you get are along the lines of ........this is cheap, my mate got that on a deal, look at the groupset. Nobody knows anything about ride quality or frame tech. Go to a bike shop, get advice about the correct fit and they may be able to point you in the direction of a club or other riders and can get you plumbed into a network of experience and help.
The priority decisions in deciding your purchase are in this order
Fit and frame, then wheels and lastly groupset.
That is the law!!
